Jazz aficionados everywhere know that truly brilliant jazz musicians are extremely rare. To be a truly great jazz musician, a near perfect musicality and ability to interpret a song is a requirement. Enter Africappella – the Johannesburg-based vocal jazz band with a musical gift that is so pristine that is often astounding.

The band display their effortless vocal acrobatics on their latest offering, Blue Junxion – an album that is brimful of beautiful melodies and brilliant arrangements.

Africappella has been around since 2006, and have been building a reputation as a gifted group of artists, capable of creating vocal magic with a minimum of effort. Singing comes as naturally as breathing to them. Africappella’s sound is unique – resonant jazz chords are interjected on simple, rhythmic African melodies.

These beautiful sounds contribute to the legacy established by pioneers such as Miriam Makeba, Themba Mkhize and Ladysmith Black Mambazo – to name but a few. Africappella consists of Jabu Khetsi Mthethwa; Vuyo Tshuma; Vusi Nhlapo; Loyiso Makhapela and Titi Luzipo.
