South African born DJ and producer, Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo, better known as “Black Coffee” is a trailblazer in the African house music market. Growing up in the eastern province of Durban, South Africa.
Black Coffee’s first introduction to music came when he was studying music theory, cultivating his taste for melody, expanding his musical knowledge and developing his listening skills. After he left school, Coffee and two friends became backup vocalists for the renowned Zulu folk singer, Madala Kunene. Which eventually led to them forming a trio group called “Shana” an abbreviation that stands for (Simply Hot And Naturally African).
